The scale of suffering in Sudan today calls for immediate attention

Mr Adnan A. Hamid

In collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the UN Refugee Agency, RLAF launched an urgent fundraising campaign to support Sudan’s increasingly alarming and dire humanitarian crisis. The Sudan Emergency Appeal 2025 was launched from 19 November 2025 to 3 December 2025 through RLAF’s online platforms and social media channels.

The Scale of the Displacement Crisis

Sudan is still experiencing one of the world’s most severe displacement emergency with over 14 million people forced from their homes since April 2023. More than 7 million remain displaced within the country. Across borders, 4.2 million refugees have sought safety in neighbouring countries such as Chad, South Sudan, Egypt, Libya and Ethiopia. 3 recent conflicts around North Darfur’s population has triggered massive new displacement waves, leaving thousands trapped without safe humanitarian access.

Over 30 million people – more than half of Sudan’s population – now require urgent assistance. Families, primarily women and children, face severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, resulting in malnutrition and disease spreading rapidly. Women and children are also facing heightened risks of exploitation and limited access to essential services such as healthcare and education.

Critical Need for Humanitarian Aid

Funds raised through the RLAF-UNHCR Appeal will support three critical areas of
life-saving intervention:

(i) Human Assistance and Protection,
which includes the provision of safe shelter, aid, and psychosocial support for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV);

(ii) Core Relief Items such as essential survival kits
containing blankets, cooking utensils, and clothing for newly displaced families;

(iii) the implementation of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) services,
aimed at preventing the spread of infectious diseases such as cholera through the construction ofemergency latrines and the distribution of hygiene kits;

“The scale of suffering in Sudan today calls for immediate attention,” said the Chief Executive Officer of RLAF, Mr Adnan Abdul Hamid. “The worsening violence, hunger and widespread displacement have created a humanitarian crisis. We appeal to the community for urgent action to provide humanitarian aid.”

Through this fundraising collection, RLAF seeks to rally the Singapore community to support the displaced people affected by the Sudan crisis. All funds raised will be channelled through UNHCR to support the delivery of urgent, life-saving assistance including shelter, clean water, food, emergency health and medical support, and psychosocial care to affected individuals and families across Sudan and the neighbouring countries.
