We’re back this week with yet another series on #theheartbeat! Today we have Sakinah Tan , 26 and she has been volunteering with #RLAFSG for four amazing years, out of her whopping nine years! Sakinah is a vibrant, lively personality, and like her responses, quite on-point, with no fluff!
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a physiotherapist-to-be who speaks five different languages!.
Q: What made you want to be a volunteer?
I am enticed by the very meaning of RLAF (Rahmatan lil Alamin) — to be a Mercy to all life!
Q: So Sakinah, where did you start volunteering and how has your volunteering journey been so far?
I started volunteering when I was in school, teaching Math for free to the under-privileged. My journey these nine years has been… Not boring haha — nothing is ever the same. Sometimes I get to play the part of a planner, and sometimes I am a participant & other times, I am a facilitator! I have this personal motto: Treat others how you would love to be treated. I would personally love when someone extends their help my way. That’s what keeps me going to consistently volunteer
Q: How has volunteering at #RLAFSG benefitted you?
RLAF has granted me opportunities to meet other like-minded people who have the same purpose in volunteerism; also opportunities to up-skill myself in areas like psychological first aid and art therapy.
Q: If there is one advice you would give to budding youth volunteers…
DONT PLAN TOO MUCH; JUST START DOING, JUST GET GOING!
This wraps up our time with Sakinah Tan. Visit us again next month for another #RLAFeature of #theheartbeat!
