What is RLA DAY?

Rahmatan Lil Alamin (Blessings to All) Day, also known as RLA Day, is an annual observance that highlights the endeavors of the Singapore Muslim community in promoting the ethos of Rahmatan Lil Alamin, which aims to bring blessings to everyone.

Pillars of RLA Day

Aims of RLA Day

RLA Day centers its efforts on the disability cause, uplifting the well-being of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and their devoted caregivers in Singapore. It does so through the following initiatives:
a. Amplifying community awareness about the challenges faced by PWDs and their dedicated caregivers, fostering empathy and understanding.
b. Building robust connections between organizations supporting PWDs, caregivers, and community members, promoting engaging volunteer-beneficiary interactions and meaningful partnerships.
c. Catalyzing and inspiring generous contributions to RLAF's fundraising campaign in collaboration with the esteemed President's Challenge, empowering organizations that provide essential services and unwavering support to PWDs and their caregivers.
Together, let's create a brighter future for all.
Why support the disability cause?

In a Facebook post, President Halimah said caregivers are an underserved segment in the community who need greater support. Join us in continuing the journey towards a better tomorrow for not just people with disabilities but their caregivers too!

"Caregiving is an important node in the social support ecosystem. Often, we focus on the beneficiaries, but caregivers themselves also need support and help to care for their loved ones.”

To boost support for caregivers, the President's Challenge 2023 will focus on "Caring for Caregivers".

Caring for PWDs and their Caregivers

The pace of economic and technological transformations has accelerated over the years, bringing increasing disruptions and volatility. The impact of these changes is more substantial and acute on PWDs including on the ability of PWDs to live independently, opportunities to be gainfully employed as well as to participate fully in society.

Hence, it important to increase support for PWDs so that they are able to work in jobs according to their interests and abilities and live independently and with dignity in the community.

Furthermore, as households become smaller and the caregiving load is shared amongst fewer members, more families may find providing family support and care as an increasing challenge.

Based on a report by the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC), the caregiving population in Singapore stands at an estimated 210,000 and will be increasing in the future.

Additionally, with 70% of caregivers in Singapore being above 40 years old, and 10% falling between 60 and 69 years old, there is an urgent need to provide assistance as the population ages and family sizes decrease.

By engaging and donating to organizations which support caregivers, RLAF aims to rally and expand support for aging caregivers, enabling them to care for their grown-up children and themselves more effectively.

Noteworthy Moments from Previous RLA Day Endeavors

Our inaugural RLA Forum in September 2022 witnessed the presence of 60 participants representing 25 esteemed organizations and disability-related social service agencies. It was an extraordinary gathering centered around the compelling theme of "Overcoming Challenges, Strengthening Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities."

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Mr. Faishal Ibrahim, Minister of State from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development. The occasion reached new heights when visually-impaired talents from the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped astounded us with their awe-inspiring singing prowess, leaving us utterly captivated.
