The Rahmatan Lil Alamin (Blessings to all) Foundation (RLAF), in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), is organising a collection to provide aid in the form of healthcare, shelter and social support for vulnerable communities in Yemen.
Years of conflict in Yemen have caused the loss of thousands of civilian lives, destruction of public infrastructure and massive displacement across the country. At present, some 20 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian assistance with over four million forcibly displaced throughout the country.
A majority of those displaced reside in impoverished urban neighbourhoods and over a million are living in makeshift shelters and unfinished buildings where living conditions are unsafe and overcrowded – often with little to no access to water, waste management systems, and proper drainage which bring risks of waterborne diseases and other potential harm. Hence, timely provision of safe and adequate shelter as a physical layer of protection against the elements is an utmost priority.
With 80 per cent of the total population living below the poverty line, the ongoing conflict, increasing displacements and deterioration of the economy further hit by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, resulted in communities competing over increasingly scarce resources, including livelihood opportunities or access to public services.
For this reason, the RLAF is conducting an online collection via multiple platforms starting Friday, 27 August to 2 September 2021 to assist in sustaining efforts to provide vital, life-saving and protection activities to the people of Yemen.
